A 3,000 square mile oblique box located in the 60 miles south of Danang to Chu Lai, and stretching 70 miles westward from the South China Sea to the mountainous border with Laos. Comprised of sandy seacoast, inland rice paddies, small river valleys, and triple canopy jungles – bisected by the north-south dirt road known as Highway 1. The Provincial capital of Tam Ky, villages, hamlets, and a major artery of the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Welcome to the 196th AO.
The brown patches are defoliated areas from Agent Orange aerial spray applications. This is Death Valley – area of death and destruction in the Summer ’69.
